History

In 1989, a group of concerned citizens created Community Partners of Dallas to assist Child Protective Services (CPS) caseworkers in meeting the needs of abused and neglected children. The program was replicated throughout the State of Texas resulting in Greater Texas Community Partners (GTCP), which was a partnership between CPS and communities throughout Texas. Prior to the establishment of Community Partners, caseworkers relied on their own personal resources or spent hours of precious time searching for resources to meet the needs of the children they served. State budgets do not contain enough funds to provide these children with basic needs such as clothes, baby formula, school supplies, and toiletries. Community Partners facilitates private sector support to meet the needs of CPS children.

A few words from Laura Bush, Former First Lady of both The United States and The State Texas and Ex-Officio Board Member of Greater Texas Community Partners:

“Through initiatives like Rainbow Rooms and Adopt-a-Caseworker, GTCP continues to bring hope to many children who have been dealt an uncertain and unfortunate hand in life. Thanks to these programs, their futures are brighter and their lives are improved. Every child deserves the attention and care that the people involved with Greater Texas Community Partners provide so willingly and selflessly, and I am greatful for the example set for other child protective programs nationwide.”
